Packing for Umrah starts with the documents that get you into Saudi Arabia and the clothing you need for ihram. This checklist covers the practical essentials for men and women without overpacking.
Documents and Health Essentials

- Loose everyday clothes for use after leaving ihram
Men avoid clothing shaped to the body, such as shirts and trousers, while in ihram. Head coverings are also avoided. After Sa’i, men shave the head or shorten the hair to leave ihram.
What Women Should Pack
Women do not have a fixed colour or special garment for ihram. Pack loose, modest clothing and comfortable layers suitable for prayer and walking.

- Pins or clips to keep clothing secure in crowds
Women do not wear a face veil or gloves while in ihram. After Sa’i, they shorten a small amount from the ends of their hair.

After entering ihram, avoid perfume and fragranced personal products. Pack clearly labelled, fragrance-free alternatives for anything you expect to use during that period.

- Prescription medicines in their original packaging
- A medical summary or prescription copy for any chronic condition
- Period products and other personal hygiene items as needed
Complete grooming such as trimming nails and cutting hair before entering ihram. Keep enough regular medication for the whole journey and ask your doctor about heat, dehydration or time-zone changes if relevant.
Clothing for Makkah and Madinah Weather
Makkah and Madinah can be very hot, especially in summer. Winters are milder, and evenings may feel cool. Check the forecast for your exact dates instead of packing for the season alone.

- A small shoe bag for mosque visits
- A refillable water bottle
- An umbrella or other sun protection
