When to Go: Umrah Season for Singaporean Pilgrims
The 1448 AH umrah season opened in mid-June 2026, after Hajj 2026 concluded in late May, and runs until roughly six weeks before Hajj 2027, around early April 2027.
Best Months to Travel from Singapore
- Mid-year school holidays (June to early July): Aligns with the Singapore school break, but expect peak fares from Changi and Saudi summer heat above 43°C.
- September to November: Shoulder season with cooler weather in the Hejaz, moderate Haramain crowds, and the best fare value for SIN–JED routes.
- Year-end school break (December to January): Singapore’s year-end holidays land in the Saudi winter, so the period is popular with families. Book 8 to 10 weeks early.
- Avoid the Hajj run-up: Umrah visa holders must leave the Kingdom by the first day of Dhul Qi’dah, and Makkah stays shut to anyone without a Hajj permit until the end of the 14th of Dhul Hijjah.

Visa Options for Singaporeans
Singapore passport holders are on Saudi Arabia’s direct e-visa list, so you can apply online through Nusuk without a travel agent. Three visa types support umrah.
Nusuk Umrah e-Visa
Single entry. Enter Saudi Arabia within 30 days of the visa being issued, then stay up to 90 days from the day you clear immigration. Apply directly at umrah.nusuk.sa.

Saudi e-Tourist Visa
Multi-entry, valid one year with stays of up to 90 days per visit. Singaporeans can apply at visa.visitsaudi.com for around SAR 535 (approximately SGD 185) including insurance.

96-Hour Transit Visa
Free and single use with a transiting Saudia or flynas ticket, and good for a stay of up to 96 hours. Umrah is permitted, but the permit still comes from Nusuk and the visa cannot be used for Hajj.

Mandatory and Recommended Vaccines
- Meningococcal ACWY (mandatory): Single dose taken 10 days to 5 years before arrival. Required at Saudi immigration.
- Polio: Required only if you have recently visited a polio-endemic country.
- Seasonal influenza: Strongly recommended, especially for pilgrims over 60.
- Routine immunisations: Confirm MMR, tetanus-diphtheria, and hepatitis B are up to date.
Practical Health Prep

At Immigration
Have your e-visa, return ticket, and Meningococcal ACWY certificate ready. Saudi border officers capture biometrics on arrival; most flights clear within an hour, though Ramadan and weekend arrivals can take longer.
Booking Your Umrah Permit
- Book your umrah permit with a date and time slot through the Nusuk app
- Reserve your Rawdah Sharif visit at the Prophet’s Mosque (separate slots for men and women)
- Show the QR code at Grand Mosque security gates for entry
What’s Allowed and What Isn’t
Once you have completed the pilgrimage, your umrah visa lets you travel freely across Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh, AlUla, and Jeddah’s Al-Balad heritage quarter.
You cannot work, enter Makkah without a permit, or perform Hajj on this visa. The Ministry of Interior sets overstay penalties at SAR 15,000 for a first offence, rising to as much as SAR 50,000 with up to six months in prison, deportation and a re-entry ban.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MUIS handle umrah arrangements like it does Hajj?
No. The Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) runs the Hajj quota system and appoints authorised Hajj agents, but umrah is not centrally managed. Singaporean pilgrims book umrah through licensed agencies or apply independently via Nusuk.
Can Singapore permanent residents apply for umrah from Singapore?
Eligibility follows your passport, not your Singapore PR status. If your passport is on the Nusuk direct e-visa list you can apply online from Singapore; otherwise you will need to route through a licensed umrah operator.
Can Singaporean women travel for umrah without a mahram?
Yes. The Minister of Hajj and Umrah confirmed in October 2022 that a mahram is no longer required for a woman pilgrim of any age, so Singaporean women can apply for the Nusuk umrah e-visa independently.
