How to Get Your Visa Deposit Refund
When someone sponsors a UAE visit or tourist visa, immigration authorities may collect a refundable security deposit, for Dubai family visit visas, GDRFA lists AED 1,020 for first-degree relatives and AED 2,020 for second-degree family members.
This deposit is returned once the visa holder either exits the UAE before the visa expires or the visa goes unused and lapses. Here’s how to claim it back:
For Dubai visas (through GDRFA):
- Visit the GDRFA Smart Services portal
- Enter your application details and complete the CAPTCHA verification
- Click “Search” — if your application and deposit are in the system, your details will appear
- Select the “Refund” option to initiate the return
- The refund service has an expected completion time of 10 days
For other emirates (through ICP):
- Go to the ICP Smart Services portal
- Enter your application request number (sent to your email when you applied)
- Submit the refund request — AED 25 is charged as a financial guarantee refund fee
- The service completion duration is 2 days

- The entry permit validity may be extended once for an equivalent period before arriving in the UAE.
