US To Portugal Travel Restrictions, Flights News & Travel Ban In 2021 – Advisory & Requirements

COVID-19 test not required

Proof of negative COVID-19 test may be required for vaccinated travelers
Travelers with a vaccination certificate recognized by Portugal are not required to provide a pre-departure COVID-19 test result. Please check our recommendation for proof of vaccination to see more details.

Travelers without a valid vaccination certificate must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR (or similar NAAT) test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before the first departure. Alternatively, travelers can have a rapid antigen test (TRAg) taken a maximum of 48 hours before departure. Only antigen tests acceptable by the European Union Health Committee are accepted for travel. The results must be in Portuguese, French, English, Spanish, or Italian and may be presented in paper or digital format.

Details and Exemptions:This requirement does not apply to:
-Travelers under the age of 12;
-Travelers who enter Portugal through Spain.

Masks are required

Masks are recommended in public
Travelers must wear masks when using public transport, and to enter concert halls, events, and certain establishments. Use of masks is recommended in closed spaces and also outdoors when the distance between people cannot be ensured.

Other Things to Take Note Of

Health screening on arrival for Madeira
Temperature screening is required for all travelers on arrival to Madeira. Travelers with high temperatures will be referred to health authorities for COVID-19 testing and quarantine.

Required Documents for your Trip

Mandatory proof of vaccination
Travelers who are fully vaccinated must present a valid vaccination certificate. Travelers must have received all doses required of the vaccine, including a combination of two different vaccines, at least 14 days before travel.

Vaccine certificates issued by third countries are accepted under reciprocal conditions, and the vaccines must be approved by EMA (Janssen, AstraZeneca/Vaxzevria, Moderna/Spikevax, Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty).

Currently, vaccine certificates from Albania, Andorra, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Morocco, North Macedonia, Norway, Panama, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City are accepted under reciprocity.

Travelers with access to the EU Digital Certificate or NHS COVID Pass may use it to present proof.

Travelers unable to present a valid certificate may be required to comply with rules for unvaccinated travelers.

Details and Exemptions:This requirement does not apply to :
-Travelers with a valid certificate of recovery from COVID-19.

Mandatory health declaration form for the Azores
Travelers are required to complete a health form before arrival in the Azores. Once the form is completed, travelers will receive a code for presentation to the health authorities on arrival.

-Travelers with a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate of vaccination or recovery.

Mandatory passenger locator form
All travelers, including transit travelers, must fill in a passenger locator card after checking in for their flight and before arriving in Portugal. The proof of the filled-out form will need to be presented at control points.
