Do Indian Citizens Need a Visa for Uzbekistan?
Yes, for now. According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in New Delhi, Indian nationals are currently required to obtain a visa before travelling to Uzbekistan. There is no visa-free entry or visa on arrival for tourism in effect yet.
India is on the list of 76 countries eligible for the Uzbekistan e-Visa, which remains the easiest route for most short trips while the visa requirement stands.
Update, 31 August 2026: A 30-day visa-free entry arrangement for Indian citizens has been announced but is not yet in force.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Tashkent on 29-30 August 2026, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that Indian passport holders will be able to enter Uzbekistan visa-free for stays of up to 30 days. No decree, published start date or transition process has been issued yet, and the Uzbekistan e-Visa portal and the embassy’s own list of visa-free countries have not been updated to include India as of this writing.
Until the change is formally in force, Indian travellers should keep applying for the e-Visa or sticker visa as described below. Visa-Free Transit For Indians
Indian travellers transiting through international airports in Tashkent or other Uzbek airports may stay up to 5 days without a visa, provided they hold a confirmed onward ticket to a third country and the airline notifies Uzbek border authorities in advance.
Children under 16 accompanied by a legal guardian who holds a valid Uzbek visa do not need a separate visa, but must carry their own passport or biometric travel document. They may stay for the validity of the accompanying adult’s visa, capped at 90 days from the date of entry.
Uzbekistan Visa Types
Indians can choose between two main routes: the online e-Visa or a sticker visa issued by the Uzbekistan Embassy in New Delhi. The right one depends on your trip purpose, length of stay, and how many entries you need.

Most Indian leisure travellers apply for the e-Visa. Anyone planning to stay longer than 30 days, work, study or join family must apply for a sticker visa at the embassy.
Requirements and Documents
Document requirements differ between the e-Visa and the sticker visa. Both share the same basic passport and photo standards, but the sticker visa needs more supporting paperwork.
For e-Visa
The e-Visa is fully online and document-light. According to e-visa.gov.uz, you need:
- An Indian passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the period of stay, with one blank page
- A scanned colour copy of the passport biodata page (under 500 KB)
- A recent passport-style colour photograph
- A working email address to receive the e-Visa
- A Visa or Mastercard for the USD payment
No invitation letter, hotel booking or financial proof is required for the e-Visa application itself, though border officers may ask for these on arrival.
For Sticker Visa
The sticker visa needs the same passport standard plus additional paperwork submitted to the Uzbekistan Embassy in New Delhi:
- Completed and signed visa application form (from evisa.mfa.uz)
- One recent colour passport-sized photograph
- Original passport with at least one blank page, valid 90 days beyond your intended stay
- Photocopy of the passport biodata page
- Visa support confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan (mandatory for non e-Visa categories)
- Proof of consular fee payment (bank receipt)
Visa support confirmation is arranged by your Uzbek host, employer, university or a licensed Uzbek tour operator. Without it, the embassy cannot issue the visa.
How to Apply
The process depends on whether you are applying for an e-Visa online or a sticker visa through the embassy.
For the e-Visa
The e-Visa is processed entirely online via the official portal. Allow at least 3 working days before travel, though most applications are decided in 2 to 3 working days.
- Visit e-visa.gov.uz and select your country (India), passport type and visa purpose
- Choose your travel dates and visa type (single, double or multiple entry)
- Fill in personal and passport details exactly as they appear in your passport
- Upload your photograph and a scan of your passport biodata page
- Pay the visa fee online by Visa or Mastercard
- Track the application status on the portal using your reference number
- Once approved, download and print the e-Visa from the email you receive
e-Visa fees are USD 20 for single entry, USD 35 for double entry, and USD 50 for multiple entry. Carry the printed e-Visa with you at immigration; an electronic copy on your phone is not sufficient.
For the Sticker Visa
Sticker visas are issued by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in New Delhi. The consular district covers India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, so applicants from these countries apply at the same office.
- Arrange visa support confirmation through your Uzbek host, employer or tour operator
- Pay the consular fee into the embassy’s Kotak Mahindra Bank account in the applicant’s own name
- Complete the application form at evisa.mfa.uz and print it
- Submit the form, passport, photo, payment receipt and photocopy in person at the embassy
- Attend an interview if requested
- Collect the visa once approved (standard processing takes around 5 to 6 working days; urgent processing in 2 to 3 days carries a 50% surcharge)

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Assuming Uzbekistan is already visa-free for Indians: It isn’t, not yet. A 30-day visa-free arrangement was announced in August 2026 but has no confirmed start date, so an e-Visa or sticker visa is still required for now. Many Central Asian neighbours like Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan already have visa-free arrangements with India, which is a separate, existing rule.
- Applying too late: The e-Visa needs at least 3 working days before travel. Sticker visas need 5 to 6 working days plus time to arrange visa support. Apply at least 2 weeks before flying.
- Forgetting to print the e-Visa: Border officers and airline check-in staff often require a physical printout. A PDF on your phone alone may be refused.
- Mismatched names on bank payments: The embassy only accepts consular fee payments made in the exact name of the applicant. Payments under a relative’s or agent’s name are rejected.
- Using the e-Visa for a long stay: The e-Visa caps at 30 days. If you plan to stay longer, apply for a sticker visa instead — extending an e-Visa from inside Uzbekistan is not straightforward.
- Booking flights before confirming visa rules: Always confirm your eligibility first. Once your visa is sorted, search flights to Tashkent and hotels in Tashkent on Wego.
Most Indian travellers reach Uzbekistan via direct Uzbekistan Airways flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Tashkent, with seasonal service from Goa. Air India sells these same Delhi and Mumbai routes under a codeshare with Uzbekistan Airways rather than operating its own aircraft.
