The Australian Government has set 25 October 2026 as the Western Sydney International Airport opening date for passenger services.

Confirmed Western Sydney Airport airlines and routes
Jetstar: Gold Coast, Melbourne and Brisbane
Jetstar is the launch airline. From 25 October, its published plan is up to 14 flights a week between WSI and Melbourne, four weekly flights to the Gold Coast, and three weekly flights to Brisbane. The first flight is the special Sunday departure to the Gold Coast. Travellers should use the date and airport-code filters carefully because Jetstar will continue serving the broader Sydney market through existing operations at SYD.
Air New Zealand: Auckland
Air New Zealand is scheduled to become WSI’s first international airline on 26 October. It plans three return flights a week between Auckland and WSI on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The airline’s July update lists morning operations and says it will use Airbus A320 or A321 aircraft. Recheck the live itinerary after booking because timings can be adjusted before launch.
Singapore Airlines: Singapore
Singapore Airlines plans a daily non-stop Singapore–WSI service from 23 November 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Its current schedule places the WSI departure close to midnight, illustrating the flexibility of curfew-free operations. Singapore Airlines will also continue its services at SYD, so the airport code matters when comparing flights or arranging an airport pickup.
Qantas: Melbourne and Brisbane from March 2027
Qantas passenger flights are a later confirmed addition. From 28 March 2027, the airline plans four flights a week from WSI to Melbourne and four to Brisbane, operated by QantasLink. These services sit outside the October 2026 passenger launch window.
What the WSI terminal will be like
The Nancy-Bird Walton Terminal houses domestic and international gates under one roof. Its first stage is designed to serve up to 10 million passengers a year. The airport has also described common-user self check-in, self bag-drop and advanced security screening among the terminal features.
WSI says shopping and dining will be available around the clock in line with domestic and international flights. Duty-free, travel essentials, foreign exchange and selected food venues have been announced, with further partnerships still being added. Treat airline counters, lounge access, shop lists and opening hours as pre-opening details to verify closer to travel.

Western Sydney Airport transport for opening day
WSI is at 40 Nancy Drive, Luddenham. The airport’s current access plan combines motorway, bus, shuttle, taxi, rideshare and parking. The Sydney Metro connection is due later.
Driving, pickup and parking
The toll-free M12 Motorway is open and connects the airport precinct with the wider motorway network through the M7. WSI says more than 6,000 parking spaces will be available, including long-term and accessible spaces, electric-vehicle charging bays, and free pickup and drop-off zones. Public buses and the free St Marys shuttle
New public buses began on 5 July 2026, linking WSI with Penrith, Leppington, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Mount Druitt every 30 minutes between 5am and 10pm daily, according to the airport.
From the first passenger flight, a separate free airport shuttle is scheduled to connect St Marys train and bus interchange with the WSI kerbside. The airport lists a 30-minute frequency, an approximate 30-minute road journey in normal traffic, and service from 4:30am to midnight Sunday to Thursday and until 1am on Friday and Saturday.
Metro connection scheduled for 2027
The 23-kilometre Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line is scheduled to open in 2027. It will link St Marys with Orchard Hills, Luddenham, the airport’s Business Precinct, the terminal and Bradfield. The planned journey between St Marys and the terminal is around 15 minutes. Until metro services begin, passengers connecting through St Marys should plan around the road shuttle and allow for traffic.
Should you choose WSI or Sydney Airport?
Choose based on the complete trip, including airfare, flight time and ground transport. WSI may be practical for travellers based in Western Sydney or approaching through the M7 and M12 corridors. SYD currently has the established direct train connection to central Sydney and a much broader airline network.
For accommodation near the Sydney CBD, compare the WSI bus or shuttle connection with SYD’s Airport Link before booking. For stays in Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains or the southwest, calculate the journey from each airport to the exact hotel rather than using a city-wide estimate.
