Check where you stand
- Check your own record on ICP smart services with your passport details or Emirates ID number.
- Ask your employer in writing to confirm the cancellation and say what they are doing about a new entry permit.
- Register your case with your embassy or consulate so it reaches the UAE authorities.
- Do not pay anyone offering to reinstate a cancelled visa. That runs through your sponsor and the ICP.
- Count from the day you last left the UAE, not from the date your visa expires.
- Check whether you are exempt. Students studying abroad, the families of diplomats, patients receiving treatment and investors are.
- Ask your sponsor to start a new entry permit.
- Open ICP smart services and check using your passport details or Emirates ID number.
- Treat anything forwarded to you in a group chat as unconfirmed until one of those two sources says otherwise.
- If it turns out to be cancelled, ask your employer in writing and register with your embassy.
- Keep proof of the cancellation date, because your count starts the day after it.
- Start a new permit or a status change well before the 180 days run out.
- If you leave and want to come back, your sponsor applies for a fresh entry permit.

On 14 September The Daily Star reported more than 4,000 Bangladeshi visas cancelled, with no reason given in the notices. Bangladesh’s own July figure was 626. Workers from Pakistan, Egypt, the Philippines and Nepal were affected too.
A permit can take weeks, so book nothing before it arrives. When it does, compare fares across several dates rather than one.
If you are Bangladeshi and affected
The Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi is collecting cases to send to the UAE side. Affected expatriates have asked Dhaka to find a solution by 22 September.

Questions
Can I fly back to the UAE if my residence visa was cancelled while I was away?
No. You need a new entry permit, applied for by a sponsor. Your old residence visa and your Emirates ID will not get you through immigration.
Has anyone said why the visas were cancelled?
No. Notices arrived by email or phone message from July with no reason stated, and the UAE has issued no public statement. Bangladesh’s government calls the cancellations automatic and is checking whether employers triggered them. A migration expert has pointed to closer scrutiny of documents and social media, while saying that is not a confirmed cause.
How long can I stay in the UAE after my visa is cancelled?
Between 30 and 180 days, depending on your residence category, under the ICP’s published grace periods. After that a fine of AED 50 a day applies for each day you remain.
Does going home for six months cancel my UAE visa?
More than 180 continuous days outside the UAE nullifies a residence visa automatically, according to the UAE government portal. Students abroad, diplomats’ families, patients under treatment and investors are exempt.
How do I know a cancellation notice is genuine?
Check your own record on ICP smart services, or ask your mission directly. The Bangladesh Embassy has warned that false notices are circulating, some using the government’s logo, the national emblem and the embassy’s own email address.
Who cancels a UAE residence visa in the first place?
Only your sponsor, through the ICP website or app or a registered typing centre. An employment visa is cancelled in coordination with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

How this page was checked
- The grace periods and the 180-day rule come from the ICP and the UAE government portal, read on 15 September 2026. Neither is a news report.
- The case numbers do not agree. Bangladesh said 626 in July. The Daily Star reported more than 4,000 on 14 September, rising to 4,800 on ministry sources. Both are given rather than averaged, and the UAE has issued no statement.
- No fares were sampled for this page, so no price appears on it. The link above opens a live Wego search at whatever the fare is on the day you use it.
