In a groundbreaking move, Saudi Arabia has declared its intention to host the inaugural Esports World Cup in 2024, marking a significant milestone in the world of competitive gaming. The global tournament promises to bring together the finest players and teams across various popular eSports titles, setting the stage for an unparalleled spectacle.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, an avid gamer himself, was the driving force behind the announcement of the Esports World Cup. He stated, “The eSports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia‘s journey to become the premier global hub for gaming and eSports.”

The Crown Prince further emphasized that the event would play a pivotal role in achieving the objectives of Vision 2030, including diversifying the economy, expanding the tourism sector, fostering job growth in various sectors, and delivering world-class entertainment to citizens, residents, and visitors.

Previously, in 2022, the Crown Prince had announced a USD 38 billion investment strategy for the Kingdom’s Savvy Games Group, owned by the deep-pocketed sovereign wealth fund.

What is the Esports World Cup 2024?

The Esports World Cup, which stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s dedication to the gaming and eSports industry, aims to generate thousands of employment opportunities as part of its National Gaming and Esports Strategy.

The event will present a diverse array of activities and attractions aimed at drawing visitors and tourists to the capital. The competition will not only celebrate the world of eSports but also spotlight Saudi and Arabic culture through the creation of local games and content.

Moreover, the Esports World Cup will be organized by the Esports World Cup Foundation, a nonprofit organization designed to facilitate collaboration among a multitude of stakeholders within the eSports industry. This includes game developers, publishers, sponsors, media, and regulators.

Esports World Cup 2024 date

Commencing in the summer of 2024, Riyadh has become the annual host city of the Esports World Cup, which has been announced to be conducted from 3 July to 25 August 2024.

According to a statement by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Esports World Cup competition will take place annually in Riyadh starting in the summer of 2024. However, the exact venue has not been released yet.

As of May 2024, the Esports World Cup 2024 will feature 20 distinct tournaments across 19 competitive games. More titles have yet to be announced. Various popular titles like Pubg Mobile, Rocket League and Apex Legends have been added to the list. The official website of the Esports World Cup has also provided an 8-week schedule of the games that will feature an intense competition among the greatest players and clubs in the world.
