A story about second chances, the start of something new, and destination weddings all come together wrapped in a pretty neat bow in Netflix’s ‘Mother of the Bride,’ which can be said to be loosely inspired by Cheryl Barker’s book by the same name. Weddings in general, have a tendency to bring about much chaos with them, and when that is paired with a destination wedding, double the chaos ensues.

However, one of the fantastic things about art is that you get to experience new things right where you are rooted, and this film is no different. Follow Wego as we take a flight of fancy through two of the Anantara Resorts featured in the film and maybe plan ahead for a summer vacation.

Anantara Layan Phuket Resort

Right as the movie begins, one of the main characters, Emma, announces her engagement and her wedding location at Anantara Resorts in Phuket, Thailand, which her employer will be paying for. The first Anantara that graces our screen after an aerial shot of Phuket is Anantara Layan Phuket Resort

At a stone’s throw distance from the Phuket International Airport, the Anantara Layan Phuket Resort’s pool villas are nestled on the golden sands of Phuket Island’s northern side, tasseled by a national park on all sides.

There are 83 pool villas of 10 different types, each offering idyllic tranquil lagoons. Each villa has been intricately designed to give guests the perfect tropical getaway. You don’t need to leave the resort grounds to enjoy the various colors of nature and the dazzling Andaman waters. You can embark on an adventure or simply relax and unwind.

Soak in all the salt air and golden rays of the sun all day and enjoy refreshments as you take a dip in the resort pool or lay back in the sun lounger. Master the art of Muay Thai from the resort’s own kickboxing master, or take advantage of the resort’s private wellness space to ensure you are keeping up with your physical health even when you are on vacation.

Or hop on a bike and let your instincts and a map guide you around the island, exploring nearby islands and jungles. You might capture a few stunning shots of Mother Nature in all her glory for your scrapbook or social media. Take private cooking classes from renowned chefs, or charter a yacht for a party on the waves. Snorkel among vibrant sea creatures, marvel at the coral reefs or try your hand at fishing. The options for adventure, relaxation, and rejuvenation are endless!

A 40-minute drive north from Anantara Layan Phuket Resort is the Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, which sets the scenes from the movie where the bridal party is seen relaxing between wedding preparations.

The accommodation space at Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas may echo the charm of its sister properties, but its dining area by the breach overlooking the horizon is unique and is open from 7 am to midnight, where you can get a taste of authentic Thai cuisine as well as several international cuisines.

You can sip delicious concoctions by the infinity pools, take part in omakase experiences, visit a Michelin restaurant by the beach with the gentle waves as the soundtrack, which only illuminates the already zesty vibes of the place, or be a part of the Sunset Lounge and enjoy a sparkling drink as the Sun kisses the cloudbank and says goodbye for the day.

What a difference a day makes, especially a day when you are frolicking about topical wonderlands! Whichever one of the Anantara resorts you choose, rest assured you will not be running out of ways to unwind, detox, reconnect with nature, and make new memories to ruminate on later.
