Taiwan: Closed for Travel

Entry restricted for international travelers
Most international travelers are not allowed to enter Taiwan. Travelers can apply for a special entry permit at the Taipei Representative Office (TRO) in the country from which they plan to travel but travel for tourism and regular social visits will not be allowed.

Details and Exemptions:Entry restrictions do not apply to:
-Residents of Taiwan;
-Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) holders;
-Alien Permanent Resident Certificate (APRC) holders;
-For diplomatic or official business;
-To fulfill contractual obligations;
-For special humanitarian reasons;
-The spouse, or the underage child of a R.O.C. national:
-Students, professors, and researchers.

14 days quarantine

Mandatory 14-day quarantine
Travelers arriving from selected countries who do not have a travel history in selected countries during the 14 days prior to their arrival must quarantine for 14 days on arrival at quarantine hotels or stay at group quarantine facilities, at their own expense.

Details and Exemptions:Local authorities monitor those self-isolating, and there are legal penalties for anyone breaching the conditions. Travelers aged 12 years and older, may be asked to install a local SIM card (card can be bought in the airport after arriving) and a personal phone (1 phone per person) for declaration.

Travelers will be required to undergo COVID-19 PCR testing 1 day before the end of home isolation or home quarantine period.

A further home-based COVID-19 rapid test will be required to be taken between the 6th and 7th day of the self-health management period. A positive result from any of the tests taken will mean hospitalization.

Travelers must wear masks in public places and public transportation.

Required Documents for your Trip

Mandatory accommodation booking
Travelers must also provide proof of the place of quarantine to enter Taiwan. The place shall be a quarantine hotel, or government quarantine facility.

Those who choose to quarantine at home shall fill an online affidavit form to declare they have met the requirement of one person per residence.

Mandatory health declaration form
All travelers are required to fill out a health declaration form 48 hours before their arrival in Taiwan. This form can be completed in writing or online.

Proof of negative COVID-19 test results
Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result. The result must be issued a maximum of 3 days before boarding their flight. The certificate should be in English or Chinese.

Details and Exemptions:Travelers may be exempt from the requirement if:
-Traveling for emergency reasons;
-Traveling from a country where testing is not available;
Special permission from Taiwan government agencies is required.
