Abu Dhabi International Airport is set to undergo a significant transformation, as UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued directives to rename it.

Wego reports that the official announcement came on Tuesday, just one day prior to the highly anticipated opening of Terminal A, scheduled for 1 November 2023.

The airport’s new name, Zayed International Airport, will come into effect on 9 February 2024, coinciding with the official inauguration of the new Terminal A.

The new Terminal A, formerly known as the Midfield Terminal during its construction phase, is designed to accommodate up to 45 million passengers annually and will offer flights to 117 destinations across the globe. On 1 November 2023, Terminal A will begin operations, ushering in a momentous increase in passenger capacity for Abu Dhabi and solidifying the emirate’s position as a global aviation hub.
