The UAE has always been keen on going digital and easing documentation procedures for its citizens. As part of its ongoing drive to make government-issued documents and papers more seamless and quick, UAE nationals abroad can now get their passports in 30 minutes. 

An e-service has been launched to provide emergency “e-return document” within 30 minutes, which earlier took 3 days. Keep reading to know more about the e-service. 

 

Who can apply for the UAE emergency passport service? 

The ministry offers the service to UAE citizens in cases of lost or expired passports and for newborns.

It also enables Emirati travellers to obtain a return document at any time and any place in less than 30 minutes, which will be emailed to them free of charge and without the need to visit a UAE embassy or consulate.

How to apply for the UAE emergency passport service? 

Documents required

Emergency passport for newborns

  • copy of child’s birth certificate attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of residence and UAE Mission abroad 
  • copy of Father’s passport or ID card 
  • copy of Mother’s passport 
  • copy of full national ID book ( Family book) 
  • in case of a foreign spouse or UAE spouse not added to the Family book Copy of the Marriage Certificate attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Country of residence and UAE Mission abroad

Emergency passport for children over one year of age 

  • copy of child’s birth certificate attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of residence and UAE Mission abroad 
  • copy of Father’s passport or ID card 
  • copy of Mother’s passport
  • copy of full Family book 
  • in case of a foreign spouse or UAE spouse is not added to the Family book Copy of the Marriage Certificate attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Country of residence and UAE Mission abroad

Emergency service for lost or stolen passport

  • copy of full family book 
  • copy of lost passport 
  • copy of lost passport record attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of residence and UAE Mission abroad 

Emergency service for expired passport

  • copy of passport or ID card 
  • copy of full National ID book (Family book) 
  • a written letter explaining reasons for staying abroad throughout this period 

Emergency service for damaged passport

  • copy of passport or ID card (Family book) copies of full national ID book Written letter on the reasons behind the damaged passport, or police report 
  • when reporting to the embassy: bring the damaged passport and hand it over to Mission

Application process

Those concerned must apply for the service on the ministry’s website, www.mofaic.gov.ae, or on its smart application, “UAE MOFAIC”, available on both Android and iOS
