Despite banning all scheduled international flights to and from India, flights are operable between countries that have an air-bubble agreement with India. One such country is Kuwait, from where travel to India is still restricted to only certain groups of travellers.

Kuwait to India latest flight news

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India has banned all scheduled international passenger flights till 28 February 2022, adding that the suspension won’t apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA. 

International flights to India will continue to operate on a smaller scale and only with countries with which India has air bubble agreements. Thankfully, India and Kuwait have an air bubble agreement that allows airlines to operate flights to and from both countries.

Indigo

The budget airline Indigo operates multiple flights to India from Kuwait on a daily basis.

Flight duration

The scheduled flight duration for direct flights is about 3 hours 55 minutes, whereas connecting flights may take anywhere from 15 hours to more than a day, depending on the layover periods.

Kuwait Airways 

The flagship carrier of Kuwait, Kuwait Airways operates several direct flights from the Kuwait International Airport to prominent Indian cities every day.

Kuwait Airways operates only direct flights from Kuwait to India, which may take upto 3 hours and 45 minutes. 

Air India

Air India, the national carrier of India has both direct and connecting flights departing from Kuwait to prominent cities like Delhi, Chennai and other airports in India.

Flight duration

Connecting flights by Air India may take anywhere between 6 hours to 10 hours, whereas direct flights will take up to 4 hours and 5 minutes to reach India from Kuwait. 

 

Kuwait to India travel rules

Who can travel to India from Kuwait? 

Travel to India from Kuwait via the air bubble scheme is restricted to the following specified categories of passengers:

  • Indian nationals stranded in Kuwait
  • All Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders holding passports of any country
  • Nationals of Kuwait holding a valid Indian visa as per extant guidelines.

Required documents

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has updated guidelines for international arrivals.

Testing requirements

Pre-arrival testing

According to the latest PCR test entry requirements in India, all travellers from Kuwait should:

  • Submit a self-declaration form on the online Air Suvidha portal and upload a negative RT-PCR test report before the scheduled travel
  • This test should have been conducted within 72 hours prior to undertaking the journey.
  • Each passenger shall also submit a declaration with respect to the authenticity of the report and will be liable for criminal prosecution if found otherwise.

Post arrival testing 

  •  A sub-section (2% of the total passengers in the flight) shall undergo random post-arrival testing at the airport on arrival.
  • Such travellers in each flight shall be identified by the concerned airlines. They will submit the samples and shall be allowed to leave the airport.
  • If the travellers test positive, their samples should further be sent for genomic testing at the INSACOG laboratory network.
  • They shall be treated/isolated as per laid down standard protocol.
  •  All travellers will self-monitor their health for 14 days post-arrival.

Exemptions

Children under 5 years of age will be exempted from both pre-arrival and post-arrival tests.

Quarantine rules

As per the latest guidelines, flyers arriving in India NO longer have the requirement to undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test on eight-day after arriving. The government has also relaxed the mandatory seven-day home quarantine requirement. Hence, arrivals from Kuwait to India have also been relaxed from the home quarantine and testing in quarantine requirements.

Travellers to India are, however, required to mandatorily self-monitor for 14 days post-arrival in the country.
