Just as India was all set to open its borders for international travel, the Omicron variant has yet again disrupted travel guidelines to and from the country. While flight between Saudi Arabia to India haven’t been banned yet, travel is still restricted to only certain groups of travellers. 

So who can travel to India from the Kingdom right now? What are the latest flight news, travel requirements, airline schedules and airfares? Keep reading to find out more. 

Saudi Arabia to India latest flight news

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India has banned all scheduled international passenger flights till January 31 next year, adding that the suspension won’t apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA. 

International flights to India will continue to operate on a smaller scale and only with countries with which India has air bubble agreements. Thankfully, India and Saudi Arabia have an air bubble agreement that allows airlines to operate flights to and from both countries.

Saudi Airlines

Saudia, the KSA’s flagship air carrier has resumed daily flights between Saudi Arabia and India following the opening of the travel bubble amidst the two countries.

Saudi Arabia to India flight ticket price and schedule

  • Jeddah– Delhi: at least one flight available on all days of the week. Ticket prices starting from SAR 1110.
  • Jeddah– Mumbai: up to six weekly flights and multiple daily flights on some days of the week. Ticket prices starting from SAR 1160.
  • Riyadh–Delhi: up to six weekly flights. Ticket prices starting from SAR 1160.
  • Riyadh–Mumbai: at least one flight available on all days of the week. Ticket prices starting from SAR 1110.

Flight duration

Direct flights could take upto 4 to 5 hours, depending on your arrival and departing airports. Connecting flights could take upto 15 to 19 hours in accordance with the layover periods.

Emirates

Emirates operates only connecting flights between Saudi Arabia and India, with stopovers at the Dubai International Airport.

Since there are only connecting flights available with Emirates, each flight may take upto 10 or 15 hours.

Air India

Air India, the national carrier of India has both direct and connecting flights departing from Jeddah and Riyadh to prominent cities like Delhi, Mumbai and other airports.

Spicejet operates flights to cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The schedule mostly consists of multiple daily flights departing from Jeddah and Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia to India travel rules

Who can travel to India from Saudi Arabia? 

Travel to India from the KSA via the air bubble scheme is restricted to the following specified categories of passengers:

  • Indian nationals or nationals of Nepal or Bhutan in Saudi Arabia
  • Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholders and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders holding passports of any country. It would be for the airlines concerned to ensure that there is no travel restriction for Non-Indian nationals to enter India with a particular visa category before issuing of ticket/boarding pass to the passenger
  • Saudi Arabian nationals (including diplomats) holding a valid Indian visa as per extant guidelines.

However, please note that India is still listed under countries where travel has been suspended for Saudi citizens by the Saudi government. As a result, Saudi citizens travelling to India will be subject to legal accountability and heavy penalties upon their return, and will be banned from travel for three years.

Required documents

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has updated guidelines for international arrivals.

  • Travellers need to register themselves prior to arrival by submitting a self-declaration form before travelling to India. The form has to be completed by every person who is flying, including infants and children. After filling in the form, travellers will get an approval code that will be required before boarding any flight.
  • Passengers need to download the Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones.

Testing requirements

According to the latest PCR test entry requirements in India, all travellers from the KSA should:

  • Submit a self-declaration form on the online Air Suvidha portal and upload a negative RT-PCR test report before the scheduled travel
  • This test should have been conducted within 72 hrs prior to undertaking the journey.
  • Each passenger shall also submit a declaration with respect to the authenticity of the report and will be liable for criminal prosecution if found otherwise.
  • Travellers should have a hard copy of their negative test results with them when they travel. This is because digital copies are not accepted.

Children under 5 years of age will be exempted from both pre-and-post-arrival testings.

Quarantine rules

Travellers from the KSA irregardless of their vaccination status, will be allowed to leave the airport and self-monitor their health for 14 days’ post arrival. A sub-section (2% of the total flight passengers) shall undergo post-arrival testing at random at the airport on arrival.

  • The 2% of such travellers in each flight shall be identified by the concerned airlines
  • Such travellers shall be escorted by the concerned airlines to testing area on arrival.
  • Laboratories shall prioritise testing of samples from such travellers.
  • If such travellers are tested positive, they shall be managed as per laid down standard protocol and samples would further send for genomic testing.

If travellers under home quarantine or self-health monitoring, develop signs and symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 or test positive for COVID-19 on re-testing, they will immediately self- isolate and report to their nearest health facility or call National helpline number (1075)/ State Helpline Number.
