New Year’s Day (1 January)

Like the rest of the world, Oman will usher in the New Year on Wednesday, 1 January 2025, a public holiday.

Extend your break by taking leave on Thursday, 2 January 2025, and enjoy a four-day long weekend!

Accession Day (12 January)

His Majesty The Sultan has declared Sunday, 12 January 2025, an official holiday in Oman.

This holiday will apply to both the public and private sectors in celebration of His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession Day.

Prophet Muhammad’s Ascension/Al Isra’a wal Miraj (30 January)

On the occasion of the blessed Al Isra’a Wal Miraj anniversary, Thursday, 30 January 2025, has been declared an official holiday for employees of the State’s administrative bodies, legal entities, and private sector establishments.

In cases where work on this day is necessary, appropriate compensation must be provided in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Eid al Fitr (29 March – 3 April)

Eid Al Fitr dates are subject to moon sightings. For the year 2025, Eid al Fitr was on Monday, 31 March 2025.

The Eid al Fitr holidays for the year 2025 were observed from March 29 to April 3, 2025. 

Eid al Adha (5 June – 9 June)

In Oman, Eid al Adha typically lasts three to four days, commencing on the 10th day of the holy month of Dhulhijjah. Islam uses the lunar calendar, so the dates vary from year to year. In 2025, Eid al-Adha fell on Friday, 6 June 2025, based on moon sightings during Dhulhijjah.

During Eid, you can expect hotels, resorts, and theme parks to offer special offers and discounts to make the most of the long weekend celebrations. 

Muharram (29 June) 

Muharram, or the Hijri New Year, the first month of the Islamic New Year, was celebrated in Oman on Sunday, 29 June 2025. 

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (5 September)

In Oman, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad is observed as a holiday. For the year 2025, the event will be celebrated from sundown on Thursday, 4 September, to sundown on Friday, 5 September.

According to the Islamic Lunar calendar, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday is on 12 Rabiʽ al-Awwal, the fourth month of the Islamic calendar. However, as per the Gregorian Solar calendar, the day varies and depends on the moon’s sightings. 

Oman National Day (18 November)

As is customary, Oman National Day in 2025 will be celebrated on Tuesday, 18 November. The Sultan’s birthday is also observed as a part of the celebration on that day. 

Oman National Day marks the annual celebration of the liberation of Oman from Portuguese colonization in 1650, making Oman the oldest independent state in the Arab world.
