The Royal Oman Police (ROP) is the main law and order agency for the Sultanate of Oman. The official portal of the ROP is also responsible for all the visa processing services in the country, including applying for different types of visas, visa status checking, visa renewal and more.

ROP visa status check
By visiting the Royal Oman Police (ROP) website, applicants can check the status of their Oman visa.
To check the status of your visa, follow the steps given below:
- visit the ROP website
- enter your Web Application Number and Passport Number
- select your Passport Country (passport-issued country)
- enter the captcha correctly
- click on ‘Submit’ and you will be able to view the status of your visa application in Oman
ROP visa renewal
Please note that the Royal Oman Police service only allows the submission of applications for the renewal of residence visas.
To renew your residence Visa for Oman, please follow the steps given below:
- fill up and submit the Online Visa Application Form
- complete the online payment process
- take a printout of the completed application form
- take the hardcopy or printout of the form enclosed with the required documents to the nearest ROP Visa office
You can complete the online payment (penalty or extra penalty) and/or re-print your payment receipt if you have already completed the form online. For this, you need to log in using your application number and the reference key that was provided at the time of submission from here.
Please note that applicants should:
- enclose a copy of their passport and other documents
- applicants should comply with laws applicable in the Sultanate of Oman. Otherwise, they will be subject to a legal enquiry
- under no circumstance the employee shall be allowed to work for anyone other than their sponsor
- in all cases, the Directorate General of Passports & Residence has the right to reject the application without declaring any reason
- applicants should be in the Sultanate to renew their residence permits
- online payment is non-refundable for visa renewal applications

ROP visa types & fees
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) website provides visa services for the following types:
Work visa
A Work Visa will only be granted at the request and on the responsibility of an employer to a foreigner who is coming to Oman for employment. However, unless the foreigner is invited by a government organization, a labour permit from the Ministry of Manpower is required.
The Work Visa is a multi-entry visa and has validity for two (2) years from the date of stamping on the passport.
Documents required
The required documents are as follows:
- the application form available on the Royal Oman Police website should be filled out and printed, and the hard copy must be signed by the employer or an authorized signatory
- the application shall be typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for non-Arabs, and shall enclose the following documents:
- two photographs of (6X4) cm each.
- copy of the foreigner’s passport, valid for not less than 6 months.
- the Ministry of Manpower’s labour permit and copy thereof for every individual application.
- the original and copy of the medical certificate for nationals of certain countries: India, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria and Nepal. The certificate is to be attested by the Ministry of Health.
- copy of the approval of the relevant organization for certain occupations: teaching, religious, media, and medical occupations.
- letter from the Ministry of Manpower for certain occupations, like engineers.
- in case the foreigner has worked in Oman and not yet completed two (2) years of their last departure, a release letter from the previous employer approved by the Directorate General of Passports and Residence is required.
Additional documents
- in case the application is for the transfer of sponsorship, a release letter from the previous sponsor approved by the Ministry of Manpower is required. The offences, including delay fines, must be settled
- for some nationalities or some categories special permits are needed, such as for Filipino housemaids, a permit is needed from the Embassy of the Philippines and attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Work visa fees
The visa fee for a Work Visa is OMR 20 (USD 51.94).
Please note that a fine of OMR 50 (USD 129.86) per month will be charged for delay in the renewal.
Employment contracting visa
An Employment Contracting Visa in Oman is granted at the request and on the responsibility of an employer to a foreigner whose nature of work involves initial testing by some government organizations prior to employment. However, approval from the government organization concerned has to be provided.
The Employment Contacting Visa is a single entry visa and is valid for a stay of two (2) months from the date of entry into the country.
Please note that the Visa will be renewable for one (1) more month.
Documents required
- the application form available on the Royal Oman Police website should be filled out and printed, and the hard copy must be signed by the employer or an authorized signatory.
- the application shall be typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for non-Arabs, and shall enclose the following documents:
- two photographs ( 6X4 ) cm
- copy of the foreigner’s passport, valid for not less than six (6) months
- copy of the specimen signature sheet of the authorized signatories issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry
- copy of a valid membership card of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a copy of valid commercial registration
- letter of approval of the government organization concerned.
Employment contracting visa fees
The visa fee for an Employment Contracting Visa is OMR 20 (USD 51.94).
Please note that a fine of OMR 10 (USD 25.97) per day will be charged for overstaying.
Student visa
A student visa is granted to a licensed educational or training institution responsible for foreign students. Details of the student visa is as follows:
- valid for use within six (6) months from the date of issuance
- valid for staying in Oman for a period of 1 to 2 years as of the date of entry
- renewable for a similar period if the holder is to continue their studying, which must be supported with a letter from the educational / training institution. This needs to be confirmed by a letter from the educational/training institution.
- the student visa is a multi-entry visa
Documents required
- the application form available on the Royal Oman Police website should be filled out and printed, and the hard copy must be signed by the employer or an authorized signatory.
- the application shall be typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for non-Arabs, and shall enclose the following documents:
- two photographs ( 6X4 ) cm
- copy of the foreigner’s passport, valid for not less than six (6) months
- copy of the specimen signature sheet of the authorized signatories issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry
- original and copy of a medical certificate for those coming from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria and Nepal
- copy of the competent authority’s approval for the educational / training institution to host students from abroad
- covering letter from the employer explaining the nature and period of the study course
- copy of the commercial registration from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, a copy of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry membership card and a copy of the specimen signature sheet
Student visa fees
The visa fee for a Student Visa is OMR 30 (USD 77.92).
Family visit visa
The purpose of a family visit visa in Oman is to accommodate people who wish to visit and reunite with their family living in the Sultanate of Oman. Temporary work visa
A temporary work visa in Oman is granted at the request and the responsibility of the employer to the foreign worker coming in for temporary work.
However, unless the foreigner is invited by a government organization, a labour permit from the Ministry of Manpower will be required. Furthermore, the person for whom the visa is requested shall not be below 21 years.
The temporary work visa is a multi-entry visa and is valid for a period as specified in the permit, 4 months, 6 months or 9 months, from the date of stamping on the passport.
Documents required
- the application form available on the Royal Oman Police website should be filled out and printed, and the hard copy must be signed by the employer or an authorized signatory
- The application shall be typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for non-Arabs, and shall enclose the following documents:
- two photographs ( 6X4 ) cm
- copy of the foreigner’s passport, valid for not less than 6 months
- the Ministry of Manpower’s labour permit and copy thereof for every individual application
- the original and copy of the medical certificate for nationals of certain countries: India, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria and Nepal. The certificate is to be attested by the Ministry of Health

Multiple entry visa
A multiple-entry visa is granted by the competent authority (the Directorate General of Passport and Residence) to a foreigner who wishes to visit Oman multiple times. The holder can enter and stay in the country for a period as specified in the visa.
The multiple-entry visa is only granted to some specified categories, including:
- unsponsored businesspeople who are nationals of countries as specified by the competent authority
- sponsored businesspeople at the request of a company or a business and under their responsibility as a local sponsor
- a foreign national who has purchased a land plot or a built plot in an integrated tourist complex but has not completed the registration procedures
- citizens of the United State of America are eligible for a one-year multi-entry tourist visa for OMR 50 (USD 129.86), and also for a 2-year multi-entry visa for tourism or business for OMR 50 (USD 129.86)

- the application shall be typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for non-Arabs and shall enclose the following documents:
- two photographs ( 6X4 ) cm.
- copy of the foreigner’s passport, valid for not less than 6 months.
- copy of the signature specimen of the authorized signatories issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (for applications made by local sponsors).
- copy of valid commercial registration and copy of membership card of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (for applications made by local sponsors).
- cover letter signed and stamped by the sponsor stating the purpose of the visit.
Please note that Multiple-Entry Visas for unsponsored businesspeople can be obtained at an entry port or through an Omani mission abroad in coordination with the competent authority.
Multiple-entry visa fees
The visa fee for a multiple-entry visa is OMR 50 (USD 129.86).
ROP visa fines
This ROP service enables payment of fines related to visit and residence visas electronically for those leaving the Sultanate.
The fines will be collected only in the following cases:
- a person on any visit visa overstays the allowed period in excess of 24 hours from the date of visa expiry
- a person on any residence visa overstays the allowed period in excess of 30 days from the date of visa expiry
- a person entering the Sultanate as a dependent and does not avail visa within 180 days from the date of issuance of a separate passport
- a foreign child born in the Sultanate and does not avail visa within 180 days from the date of his/her birth
ROP visa fines application process
To complete your exit penalty payment service, follow the steps given below:
- fill up and submit the online application form
- complete the online payment process
- take a printout of the payment receipt
- take the hard copy or printout of the receipt as a reference for the payment process and present it on demand at the exit desks at the legal exit ports
