With the noticeable rise in global air travel, airlines are engaged in a competitive race to provide exceptional services to their customers, even in the event of flight cancellations. Saudi Airlines (الخطوط السعودية) allows a refund of all first issuance revenue tickets that are issued by one of SAUDIA’s points of sales through some modes of payment, including SADAD, credit cards, cash, checks and span.

What is Saudi Airlines’ cancellation and refund policy?

Saudi Airlines allows a refund of all first issuance revenue tickets that are issued by one of SAUDIA’s points of sale through some modes of payment, including SADAD, credit cards, cash, checks, and span. However, the Domestic tickets and The International tickets have validity for one year from the date of issuance. After the expiry of the validity of the ticket, Saudia may refuse a refund of the same.

SAUDIA will have the right to issue a refund to the person who has their name on the ticket or to the person who paid the Ticket Value, provided the individual has the necessary documents to prove his claim. Apart from these, Saudi Airlines allows refunds under the following conditions:

  • in case the ticket was paid by a person other than the passenger whose name appears on the ticket, SAUDIA will process a refund of the ticket to its owner or under a formal letter of Authorization.
  • except for lost ticket cases, SAUDIA will refund the ticket value only when the ticket number or receipt is presented, along with all unused flight coupons.
  • refunding the ticket to any person showing the ticket’s coupon or the ticket’s receipt, along with all travel coupons that have not been used, is valid and exempts SAUDIA from liability and any other claim for refund.

Please note that in the event of booking cancellation before the date of travel, make sure to call the Saudia call centre or visit the nearest Saudia sales office directly to update your tickets and avoid the consequences of closing the ticket. Complete policy here.

Types of Saudi Airlines refund

Involuntary refund

An involuntary refund occurs when SAUDIA cancels a flight or the flights are not being operated according to the schedule, or the flight fails to stop at a point that was intended to be the endpoint or stopping point for the passenger.

The situation can also occur when the airline fails to provide a reserved seat in advance or causes the passenger to miss a confirmed connected flight. In this case, the amount of the refund will be as follows:

  • if the ticket is not used, the refund will be equal to the price paid.
  • if part of the ticket is used, the refund shall be whichever is more in the following cases:
    • either the ”GO“ fare (minus the applied discount and fees) from the unscheduled breakpoint to the endpoint or the next breakpoint or,
    • the difference between the fare paid and the transport fare used.

Voluntary refund

If the passenger voluntarily desires to get a refund for their ticket, the refund amount will depend upon the following conditions:

  • if the ticket is not used, the refund amount will be equal to the fare paid minus any applicable service charges or cancellation fees.
  • if part of the ticket is used, the refund amount will be equal to the difference between the price paid and the fare applied for transportation between the points on which the ticket was used, minus any service or cancellation fees according to SAUDIA regulations.

Lost tickets

Passengers losing their tickets may be able to request a refund, provided they have sufficient proof that they have lost their tickets and are capable of paying the applicable service fee. The refund may be granted if:

  • the lost ticket has not been used or refunded
  • the person who receives the refund agrees to return the refunded amount in case of:
    • fraud
    • the use of the lost ticket by any person
    • the refund of the lost ticket to the person who holds the ticket

How to apply for Saudi Airlines’ cancellation and refund? 

Passengers can cancel or get a refund for their tickets by submitting a new claim in the ‘Refund‘ section from the SAUDIA website. Tickets paid with cash, check, SADAD, Span, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express are eligible for a refund.

  • click on New Request to submit your claim for processing the refund.

Please note that passengers who have booked and issued their tickets through SAUDIA sales offices, the call centres or the SAUDIA website should cancel their bookings through SAUDIA Sales offices and the SAUDIA website before or during the refund process to avoid the No-Show Penalty Fee.

To request EMD (Electronic Miscellaneous Document) refund online:

  • submit your EMD number and last name
  • click on Verify and submit your claim

Please note that the EMD refund page will accept only compensation EMDs and Ancillary EMDs. The Compensation EMDs will be fully refunded to the traveler’s bank account. On the other hand, the Ancillary EMDs are refundable for involuntary cases and through Call Centers only.

Refund process for tickets booked through travel agents

If you have booked through a travel agency, please contact the travel agency for the issuance of the refund.

How to check your Saudi Airlines refund claim status?

Generally, SAUDIA will refund the value of the tickets or pay the prescribed compensation (cash, bank transfer, bank check, or EMDs) as per the passenger’s desire within 10 working days from the date of SAUDIA’s admission of the passenger’s Right.
