The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in the UAE recently introduced a private tutoring license called the Private Teacher Work Permit as a means of regulating private lessons outside of educational institutions and curbing haphazard practices.

In this article, Wego provides you with a comprehensive guide to this new license.

What is the UAE Tuition Permit?

The implementation of the private tuition license represents a national-level regulation of private lessons, safeguarding the rights of private educators and ensuring that students receive additional education tailored to their learning styles and requirements.

According to Dr. Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Mualla, the Undersecretary for Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education, the new system offers flexible options for students and parents while upholding discipline, quality, and efficiency in the educational process. He emphasized that the introduction of a permit for qualified individuals to provide private lessons is instrumental in curbing illegal and unregulated practices in the recruitment of private teachers, thereby mitigating potential disruptions to the overall learning process.

This move effectively legitimizes the provision of private tuition in the country, empowering teachers and qualified individuals to offer additional lessons to students beyond their formal educational settings.

Please note that this single license encompasses both online and in-person tutoring, providing a comprehensive framework for the regulation of private education services.

UAE Tuition Permit eligibility

The permit is open for application to a diverse group of individuals, including registered teachers, those currently employed, unemployed individuals, high school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Those who qualify for the permit can engage in providing private lessons, allowing them to generate direct income. However, this is contingent upon them signing a ‘code of conduct’ document approved by the ministry, ensuring adherence to established guidelines and standards.

Please note that individuals offering private lessons without obtaining the ministry’s permit will be liable to face fines and penalties. The ministry did not explicitly outline the specific amounts of fines and details regarding penalties.
