Renewal through RTA kiosk

To apply for driving license renewal in Dubai through the self-service machine, you need to follow these steps:

  • the machine will ask you for your driving license number
  • you will then have to pay the charges via credit card
  • after the process, you can print the driving license from the Self Service Machine.

Renewal through Smart Mobile App

To apply for driving license renewal in Dubai through the smart mobile app, you need to follow these steps:

  • download the RTA Smart App or the Dubai Drive App on your smartphone
  • visit one of the Eye Test Centres and take an electronic eye test. You will need to pay a fee for the eye test.
  • open the app and select Apply for Renewing a Driving Licence service from the main menu
  • scan the QR code from your driving license, or enter the following information: driving license number, issue date, birth year and traffic code number
  • settle any pending fines online using a credit card
  • settle the required fees for renewing the driving license using a credit card
  • select a delivery method for your new driving license. You can choose to receive it by courier or collect it from any RTA customer service center. You will receive a temporary license via email until you receive the new one

Renewal through MoFAIC website

To apply for driving license renewal in UAE through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation website, you need to follow these steps:

  • visit the MoFAIC website and click on Services
  • select UAE Driving License Renewal from the list of services
  • fill in the required information and attach the required documents
  • submit your request and wait for the approval
  • once approved, you will receive an email with a reference number and a link to pay the fees online.
  • after paying the fees, you will receive another email with a confirmation and a QR code
  • visit any RTA customer service center and present your QR code to collect your new driving license

This service is free and takes 2 working days. It is available for staff members in embassies accredited to the UAE, holders of Consular ID cards issued by MoFAIC, and UAE citizens and residents who are abroad.

Required documents

Before you apply for a Dubai driving license renewal, you must prepare the following documents based on the status of the license holders:

For license holders younger than 21 years old

  1. Original valid Emirates ID.

For license holders 21 years and above

  1. Original valid Emirates ID
  2. Eye test according to the required category.

For People of Determination (suffering from physical disabilities that may prevent them from driving vehicles)

  1. Copy of the certificate of transfer to the doctor issued by the Licensing Agency (The person should refer to Rashid Hospital for the medical test).

For Emirati passport holders without a family book (Marsoom holders)

  1. Copy of the valid passport
  2. Copy of the valid Marsoom.

For Emirati passport holders, sons of Emirati women

  1. Copy of the valid passport
  2. Copy of a letter from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs stating that the customer’s mother is Emirati.

Below are the detailed fees for the Dubai driving license renewal according to the age and status of the license holders.

For license holders younger than 21 years old

  • AED 100 driver’s license renewal fees
  • AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees.
  • AED 500 additional fees when requesting the mobile truck service for the eye test and license renewal.

For license holders 21 years and older

  • AED 300 driver’s license renewal fees
  • AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees.
  • AED 500 additional fees when requesting the mobile truck service for the eye test and license renewal.

For evaluation tests if the driving license has not been renewed for more than 10 years

  • AED 200 training file opening fees
  • AED 100 learning application fees
  • AED 50 handbook manual fees
  • AED 200 RTA test fees
  • AED 500 delay fees in renewing the driving license
  • AED 300 driving license renewal fee
  • AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees.

Those who want to pay for UAE driving license renewal through MoFAIC website can pay with credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) E-dirham.

  • AED 100 for those under the age of 21

Please note that a fine of AED 10 per month will be levied on customers who delay the renewal of their driving license for more than one month.

Abu Dhabi driving license renewal

Renewal through TAMM website

The Abu Dhabi government has initiated several online platforms from which people can conveniently renew Abu Dhabi driving licenses online and avoid long queues during rush hours. Here are a few steps to request the renewal of a driving license.

  • visit TAMM website
  • click Vehicles and Transportation on the homepage
  • select the Driving Service option
  • click Driving Licence option
  • the page will direct you to the listing of the services related to driving license
  • select Request for Renewal of Driving Licence
  • apply along with the required documents through the available channels
  • pay the fee required

Renewal through Abu Dhabi Police website

You can renew your driving license online in Abu Dhabi using the Abu Dhabi Police website or app. To do this, you need to register yourself in their system with a valid Emirates ID.

This is the same for both the website and the app. Once you log in, you can follow the steps to renew your driving license online. You can also pay the fees online and receive your new license by courier.

Ajman driving license renewal

Renewal process

To apply for driving license renewal in Ajman through the government website, you need to follow these steps:

  • visit the Government of Ajman website and select the “Issue or Renew Driver’s Permit Request” option
  • log on to the Digital Services Portal
  • you will find a request form for the issuance of driver’s permit renewal
  • here you can attach all the documents and submit your Ajman driving license renewal request
  • once your request got approved, you can pay the amount via debit or credit card and print the permit via the website
  • the service duration is around 3 hours

To submit an in-person application for your driving license renewal, you will need to visit the Traffic and Licensing Services Centre located in Al Ramtha, Sharjah.

  • you will be then provided with a temporary license to be used until the issuance of the renewed license

For Sharjah driving license renewal, you will need the following documents:

  • original Emirates ID
  • old license
  • valid eye test
  • photograph

Renewal fees

For residents under 21, the license renewal fee in Sharjah is AED 120. The amount is AED 320 for people who are older than 21.

Moreover, the license delivery fee is an additional charge of AED 15. You can avoid this amount by collecting the license from the center. You can pay the renewal fee either in cash or via a credit card.
