Are flights from Ukraine still operating?
As per the latest update, several airlines have recently decided to temporarily cease operations to and from Ukraine due to the closure of the Ukrainian Airspace.
Ukraine repatriation flights
Several governments have announced repatriation flights for their respective citizens currently in Ukraine.Here’s what we know so far about the existing special flights from Ukraine.
India
The Union government of India has launched ‘Operation Ganga’ to bring back stranded students and Indian citizens from Ukraine. Special flights are being operated by Air India and several other airlines as part of the ‘Operation Ganga’ mission. Around 20 flights have been deployed from Air India, Air India Express, Indigo, and Spice Jet. Apart from these airlines, the Airforce has also been asked to evacuate Indians from the neighbouring countries of Ukraine.
With the closure of the Ukrainian Airspace, flights are being operated from neighbouring countries of Ukraine such as Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia India has been implementing measures to evacuate stranded citizens from Ukraine.
Indians crossing into neighbouring Ukrainian countries may register their details by filling the Google Form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSchsyDFjbdNPSy5ykoGSp7bvIxxBAKxpwz04czWFVw5k2Zhvg/viewform for processing their requests for seats in the repatriation flights which will be arranged shortly.
Pakistan
Pakistan has arranged repatriation flights with Pakistan International Airlines(PIA) to rescue stranded Pakistanis in Ukraine. PIA flew two emergency flights out of Poland to rescue the hundreds of Pakistani students and others stuck in the country. The airline deployed its largest plane, the Boeing 777, on 27 February to pick up those who could be evacuated.
As many as 1463 Pakistanis have been evacuated so far. On March 9, around 230 Pakistanis were repatriated from Ukraine through a special PIA flight that arrived in Islamabad at 12:07 am.
The Philippines
The repatriation flights for Overseas Foreign Workers (OFWs) and other Filipino nationals are currently available. Repatriation remains voluntarily, and Filipino nationals who are looking to participate in the repatriation flight are requested to travel to the border of neighbouring countries.
The Philippine Embassy in Budapest and the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Moldova are continuously working together to facilitate the repatriation of seafarers and overseas Filipinos from the south of Ukraine who managed to enter Moldova. On 8 March, 21 seafarers were repatriated from Ukraine. This brings the total number of those repatriated from Ukraine to 63, while 136 have been evacuated.
