The Qatar ID, officially known as the Qatar National Identity Card, is issued by the government of Qatar to its citizens, residents, and foreign workers. It serves as a valid form of identification, confirming an individual’s identity and residency status. The card is essential for various activities, including opening a bank account, obtaining a driving license, accessing government services, and more.
The Qatar ID contains important details such as the cardholder’s photograph, name, QID number, date of birth, nationality, signature, and sponsor information. These details provide a means to verify a person’s identity and must be presented in various situations.

Qatar ID Number
The QID number is a unique 11-digit identifier assigned to individuals, which is stored in the government database. This number is crucial in confirming the holder’s identity and residency rights as an expatriate in Qatar. It comprises of important details such as the date of birth of the individual, their country code etc.
Qatar ID number is commonly referred to as IQAMA in Arabic. Here’s how to understand your Qatar ID number:
- 1st Digit: Based on the year of birth, the number would be allocated. If you were born between 1900 and 1999, your number would be 2, If born in a year from or after 2000, your number would be 3
- 2nd and 3rd Digits: These are the last two digits of your birth year
- Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Digits: Your country’s ISO code.
- Last 5 digits: The number of Qataris born in the same year as you.
How to check my Qatar ID online?
You can check your Qatar ID online through the Ministry of Interior’s official website, by putting in either your QID number or passport number.
To check your Qatar ID online, follow these steps:

Qatar ID check by QID number
- Go to the MOI Qatar ID Check Portal
- Enter your QID number
- Input the captcha
- Click the “search” button
If you have typed in the incorrect QID number and did not receive any results, simply press the reset button and try again to check the status of your Qatar ID card.
Qatar ID check by passport number
- Go to the MOI Qatar ID Check Portal
- Enter your passport number
- Choose your nationality from the drop-down menu
- Click the “search” button
In both cases, once you enter the correct details and press the search button, your Qatar ID card details will show up on the screen. The system will give you your ID Card Expiry Date, Passport Expiry Date and Residency Expire Date.
Qatar ID check on Metrash2 app
The Metrash2 app has a “Wallet” feature that allows users to access digital copies of important documents like Qatar ID, Driving License and the like. These documents are readily available online for users to get access to MOI services.
To access your online documents, just open the Metrash2 app and go to the “Wallet” section on the top corner.
How to renew your Qatar ID online
- Access the MOI e-services portal using your smart card credentials
- Navigate to “Residency Services” and choose “Renew Residency”
- For individuals,
- select up to five QID numbers to renew at a time.
- For companies,
- select up to twenty QID numbers and click “Add”
- For individuals,
- Choose the desired renewal period for the selected Qatar IDs (QIDs)
- Select a delivery option for the new residence permit or Qatar ID
- Submit payment for the relevant fees
