Construction of the Jeddah Tower is back on course under the management of the Kingdom Holding Company. Initially conceived in 2014 as the Kingdom Tower, this ambitious project sought to raise a tower exceeding one kilometer in height.
Recently, the Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), responsible for project oversight, has extended invitations to a diverse array of contractors. These invitations have been extended not only to local firms but also to international companies hailing from Europe, China, South Korea, Lebanon, and Kuwait. The purpose of these invitations is to solicit bids for the completion of the tower by the close of 2023.

The Jeddah Tower is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) to the north of the city itself. This remarkable tower serves as the focal point of the emerging Jeddah Economic City, a new urban district located along the picturesque coastline of the Red Sea.

The Jeddah Tower is designed to attain a minimum height of 1,008.2 meters (3,308 feet), a remarkable feat that would secure its status as the tallest building globally. However, the precise height can only be definitively established once the construction is successfully concluded.
Jeddah Tower completion date
Construction on the Jeddah Tower commenced in April 2013, with an initial target completion date set for 2020. However, a series of challenges led to a temporary halt in construction in 2017.
As of September 2023, a fresh request for proposals has been extended to a consortium of multinational construction companies to resume and finish the project. As of yet, no specific timeline for the project’s completion has been disclosed.

In contrast, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai currently holds the prestigious title of the world’s tallest building, soaring to a height of 828 meters (2,717 feet) and boasting 163 floors. Also designed by Adrian Smith, the Burj Khalifa serves as a mixed-use marvel, accommodating offices, hotels, residential apartments, retail spaces, and an observation deck, currently hosting the world’s highest one.
Both of these towering achievements represent remarkable feats of engineering and serve as iconic symbols of the growth and development of their respective cities.
