The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a user-friendly digital Power of Attorney (PoA) service for overseas Pakistanis, as reported by Wego. This innovative service eliminates the need for overseas Pakistanis to visit the Pakistan Mission for the creation of a Power of Attorney. Instead, they can conveniently obtain a Digital Power of Attorney from the comfort of their homes via the POA online portal.

The initiation of the online power of attorney application requires the preparation of several key documents. These include the CNIC/NICOP/POC for the executor(s), witnesses, and attorney, along with a valid email address, contact number, and mailing address outside of Pakistan. Furthermore, biometric information, comprising the finest four fingers of the executor(s) and two witnesses, is also required.

The application process, which is divided into six steps, involves creating an account, entering data, uploading biometrics, conducting a video interview, and providing final consent via email. The fee payment can be made online using a credit or debit card. Applicants are also required to submit a scanned copy of the original Power of Attorney, complete with signatures, thumb imprints, and an attached photo of the executant.

Accuracy in providing the details of the attorney and witnesses is of utmost importance. Foreigners are required to physically visit the relevant Pakistani Mission Abroad for attestation after obtaining clearance from their country’s State Department or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is also crucial for executors to select their designated Pakistan Foreign Mission during the application process to prevent misrouting and potential rejection.

NADRA’s initiative is a significant stride towards streamlining and simplifying the process for overseas Pakistanis. It offers a convenient and efficient means for Pakistanis residing overseas to manage their legal affairs in Pakistan remotely, thereby marking a new era in digital convenience.
