Malaysia, situated in Southeast Asia, is a dynamic nation celebrated for its abundant cultural legacy, breathtaking natural landscapes, and vibrant urban centers. If you reside in Dubai and have intentions of travelling to Malaysia, you are not required to apply for a visa as the UAE is eligible for visa-free travel into the country for a certain period of time.

However, foreign citizens in Dubai who are not eligible for visa-free travel to Malaysia and UAE residents who wish to stay longer than the duration of the visa-free travel are required to familiarize themselves with the necessary visa prerequisites and procedures.

Do I need a visa for Malaysia from Dubai?

No, you do not need a Malaysia visa from Dubai, as residents from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are eligible for visa-free travel to Malaysia for tourism purposes for a period of 90 days.

However, if you wish to stay in Malaysia for more than 90 days or you are a foreign citizen in Dubai, and your country is not eligible for visa-free travel to Malaysia, you will require a visa for entry into the country.

Visa Dubai Malaysia types

The following are some of the Malaysia visas foreign citizens can apply for from Dubai:

Short term visa

The short-term visa for Malaysia allows for short-term stays in the country for a maximum of 30 days, depending on the consulate’s discretion. The visa is valid for 3 months and allows both single entry and multiple entry into the country. There are two types of visas: the tourist visa and the business visa.

Tourist visa

A tourist visa is issued to applicants who wish to visit Malaysia for tourism purposes, including vacation, visiting family members and more. The tourist visa is valid for 3 or 6 months, depending on the embassy or consulate’s discretion, and allows visitors to stay for a maximum of 30 days.

Documents required

The following are some of the documents required to apply for the Malaysia short-term tourist visa:

  • a typed and signed IM47 visa application form. Please note that no handwritten, incomplete or unsigned application forms will be accepted.
  • 2 passport size latest photos, with a white background, dark shirt.
  • original passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of travel, copy of passport (for each applicant)
  • original and copy of the UAE residence visa valid till the date of return.
  • copy of hotel reservation or invitation letter if staying with family/relative/friend/company accommodation. The address must be mentioned.
  • letter of Invitation to stay, addressed to the Embassy or Consulate General of Malaysia, from a relative/friend/sponsor of the applicant indicating their complete address in Malaysia. Please note that the letter must be typed and not handwritten.
  • passport copy, copy of Malaysian visa page or Malaysian ID
  • round-trip flight reservation tickets
  • 2 months latest bank statement.
  • salary certificate (not applicable for company partner visa holders)
  • NOC from UAE residency visa sponsor (not applicable for company partner visa holder)
  • complete set of valid trade license copies (for company partner visa holder)
  • a printed copy of proof of vaccination

The visa fee for the short-term tourist visa is as follows:

  • single entry – AED 25
  • multiple entry – AED 50

Business visa

A business visa is issued to applicants who wish to visit Malaysia for business purposes, including conducting business meetings, attending conferences, trade fairs and more. The business visa is valid for 3 months or 1 year, depending on the embassy or consulate’s discretion, and is available for both single-entry and multiple-entry.

Documents required

The following are some of the documents required to apply for the Malaysia short-term business visa:

  • a typed and signed IM47 visa application form. Please note that no handwritten, incomplete or unsigned application forms will be accepted.

Single entry pass

The Malaysian single-entry pass is issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia, mainly as students, for employment purposes, as dependents, and MM2H. It is generally valid for a single entry for three months from the date of issue.

Student visa

A student visa is issued to applicants who wish to study in Malaysia.

Documents required

The following are some of the documents required to apply for the Malaysia student visa:

  • a typed and signed IM47 visa application form. Please note that no handwritten, incomplete or unsigned application forms will be accepted.
  • 2 passport size latest photos, with a white background, dark shirt.

Employment visa

An employment visa is issued to the applicants who are allowed to work in Malaysia.

  • 2 passport size latest photos, with a white background, dark shirt.

For dependents:

  • in a case where one or both parents are not travelling with the child, a consent letter is required.
  • birth certificate of the child.
  • valid means of identification of parents.
  • marriage certificate.
  • valid visa approval letter from Malaysia Immigration.

A dependent visa is issued to the applicants who will join their working family members in Malaysia.

Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)

Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow foreigners who fulfill certain criteria to stay in Malaysia for as long as possible on a multiple-entry pass.

Documents required

The following are some of the documents required to apply for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme:

  • approval letter from the Malaysia Immigration
  • 2 copies of the visa form to be filled and signed by the applicant
  • original passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of travel and copy of passport (with at least 6 months validity)
  • UAE visa copy
  • flight and hotel booking
  • 2 passport-size photos (white background)

Malaysia e-Visa

If you are a foreign citizen in Dubai and have a passport from one of the following countries, you can apply for a Malaysia e-Visa:

Afghanistan (VDR), Angola, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, China, Colombia, Congo Democratic Republic, Congo Republic, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Hong Kong (C.I/D.I), India, Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Liberia, Mali, Montenegro, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Niger, Pakistan, Rwanda, Serbia, Sri Lanka.

Required documents

  • passport-sized studio photo
  • passport biodata page with passport validity of more than 6 months from the travel date to Malaysia
  • confirmed return flight booking
  • birth certificates for minor applicants
  • proof of accommodation
  • other supporting documents

You are required to print out your Malaysia e-visa in an A4 format. Please remember that the printout is crucial and must be presented upon arrival at Malaysia entry checkpoints.

Other documents to present at Malaysia entry checkpoints:

  • a valid passport/travel document
  • a valid Malaysia e-visa printout (eVISA Note)
  • a boarding pass
  • sufficient funds (cash/traveler’s cheque/debit or credit cards/e-wallets recognized by the Malaysian Government) to cover your expenses during your stay in Malaysia
  • a confirmed return flight ticket
  • proof of accommodation, and
  • other supporting documents.

Fees

The fee for a Malaysia e-visa varies between countries and ranges from RM 9 (AED 7) to RM 50 (AED 39). Additionally, applicants will also need to pay the processing charge of RM 105 (AED 82)

To apply for a Malaysia visa from Dubai, follow the steps given below:

  • complete your visa application form and affix your photograph.
  • ensure photos are as per specifications:
    • 2 passport-size photographs
    • the photograph must be in colour.
    • it should have a white background only.
    • the photograph should be recent, not more than 3 months old.
    • scanned and colour photocopies will not be accepted.
  • attach all supporting documents required as mentioned above. Make sure your application is complete, as incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • submit your application in person at the VFS Malaysia Visa Application Centre in the United Arab Emirates at the address mentioned above.
